Local Churches

Whilst CU is a fantastic way of bringing Jesus to Glasgow Uni, it isn’t intended to replace church. A church family can help you grow in your faith more than CU ever could, and it provides the much needed support that will get you through university. So, to help you choose where to go, here are a list of the various churches in the area, and a brief summary of what they’re about, taken from their site and/or findachurch.co.uk. I would strongly recommend having a look at their individual sites, because a paragraph or so of information can never really do justice to the whole feel of a church! Whichever church you choose, though, you can be sure that you’ll be made welcome.

Our aim in Dowanvale is to proclaim the message given by God in the Bible so that people will come to know Jesus Christ themselves and be built up and strengthened in that knowledge. Because of the fundamental importance of God’s Word, primary place is given in worship to the reading and preaching of it. The congregation responds to these first by hearing and then by offering itself to God in the other acts of worship which are prayer, the singing of inspired songs and the giving of offerings. Whether you are just passing through or staying for longer, we warmly invite you to join with us in worship.

Findlay is an Independent Evangelical Church meeting in a large building near Glasgow’s city centre. We value the links we have with students, and together with our regular members we enjoy worship and ministry. We enjoy sincere and real praise and worship with gifted musicians and singers who lead the praise, singing modern songs and traditional hymns rich in doctrine and truth. We hope you will find us to be a friendly and caring fellowship, as we consider this to be an important aspect of an active church in a local community.

One motto in the vineyard is ‘Come as you are’. We try to create a friendly environment, so don’t be surprised if someone comes and speaks to you for the first time! Generally, our meeting will start with a time of praise and worship, followed later by a message that will also last around 30 minutes. After the message we have a time where people are given an opportunity to respond and receive prayer. This is to make room for God to communicate to us by His Holy Spirit.

We desire to ‘Call a City to Life!’ We are a church that makes Honouring God with our whole life a real priority. We recognise the importance of inviting people to come and join the family of God, and desire to be a community of believers being a force for change in every situation we find ourselves in. We offer a generous, non-judgemental welcome to everyone, and are a family that loves to do real life together, loving each other no matter what is going on. Our main ‘life group’ for students is called Formation. It meets mid-week and is a time of worship, teaching, honesty and fun. We also have hospitality lunches throughout September and October as well as at other times throughout the year.

We are a lively church situated in the North West of Glasgow and have a heart for community outreach, and student and young peoples’ ministry. We would like everyone to feel part of this church community. One way of doing this is by growing our pastoral care for everyone. This might mean a visit, a phone call, text or e-mail from one of our pastoral care team, just to see how you are.

We are ordinary people who believe in an extra-ordinary God. As a spiritual family we try to care for one another and all whom we meet, in practical and spiritual ways. We seek to teach the Christian scriptures, the Bible, so that people can understand them and respond to the Saviour they offer. We also run an “associate membership” scheme for students who want to belong to us while in Glasgow. Our church services are geared for all ages, with a healthy mixture of contemporary and traditional elements to them. The Living Room (Sun 8pm) is a cafe for fellowship and outreach. We run regular bible courses for enquirers and new Christians including “Student Alpha”, “Bible Overview” and “Glad You Asked”.

We are a congregation reflecting a gospel that unites all together as one in Christ Jesus—students, young workers, families and older saints from many nationalities and all walks of life. On Sundays we major on Bible teaching, so that the whole church family can be ‘equipped for the work of ministry’ (Eph 4:12), and on Wednesdays the 30 minute service reaches city workers and shoppers. We have other opportunities for investigating what Christians believe, and training and serving as a Christian in Christianity Explored, City-Wide Small Groups, Internationals events, and Release the Word, a new Bible training programme for students and young workers (Thursday evenings over food).

Our goal is to be a church that helps people ‘live life in all its fullness’ (John 10:10). That includes the joy of knowing Jesus Christ, and we hope that everyone who visits us will come to know something of His love. We hope that people will not only find joy and friendship among us, but also discover what it means to be a follower of Jesus and how best to do that.
